SACS Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the SACS (Small Arms Cleaning System) and the traditional bore cleaning methods, ie. Bore snakes, bore brushes and mops, bore solvents?

The SACS uses a polymer wad with a special scotchbrite end which is around 20% oversized and forced thru the barrel with CO2 and doesn’t require the use of bore solvents. But bore solvents can be used. When the cleaning wad is forced thru the barrel it not only cleans out the carbon fouling, corrosion or contamination it follows the rifling cleaning it as well. There is no need for harmful chemical bore solvents, no more mess, you don’t have to wash the bore snake, bore brush or mop and most of all no more scrubbing. The SACS can be used anywhere, when your done shooting you just make sure the chamber is clear insert the SACS in the chamber shoot the cleaning wad with your choice of bore cleaner or lubricant through the barrel followed by the lubricating wad and you are done.

Do I have to purchase a SACS universal power unit for each of my different caliber firearms?

No, we have created different SACS nozzle adapters for most calibers from .17 to 12 gauge shotguns.

Do you have a SACS nozzle adapter for the new Ruger .204 Rifles?

Yes, we have found that the SACS 17hmr, .22cal and .223 nozzle adapters work very well for the new Ruger .204 Rifles?

Do you have any new SACS nozzle adapter coming out soon?

Yes, we have the new .17hmr, .22 caliber adapter and .50 beowolf adapter now available. We will have a .50 BMG adapter and .50 AE Eagle / 500 S&W Revolver adapter coming soon. Also if there is adapter you would like us to make let us know so we can make one for you.

Do you have a SACS nozzle adapter for the .22 caliber firearms?

Yes, the new .22 caliber adapter is now available and it will also work on the Ruger .204 rifle and .223/5.56 rifles

Does the SACS scratch or score the firearm bore like traditional bore brushes?

No, the SACS wads are made from a polymer wad with a special scotchbrite end. We have found that with the use of a quality lubricant on the lubricating wad the firearm barrel actually gets polished.

How many times can I use the SACS wad?

You can reuse the SACS wad up to 2 or 3 times depending on how much carbon buildup, corrosion or contamination is in the barrel. We recommend that you use a new one each time to get the maximum benefit from the cleaning wad.

Do I need to use bore cleaning solvent on the SACS wad?

No, you do not need to use a bore cleaning solvent. The SACS wad cleans the bore exceptionally well with out the use of a solvent. However we recommend using a KG-12 Bore Cleaner/Copper Remover placing a few small drops on the scotchbrite end of the wad, which the SACS comes with a sample.

Can I use bore cleaning solvent on the SACS wad?

Yes, you can use a bore cleaning solvent. We recommend using a KG-12 Bore Cleaner/Copper Remover but you can use any bore cleaning solvent you like. You won't need to use very much, just a couple of drops on the cleaning wads scotchbrite tip and it will put a thin consistent coat of bore solvent down the barrel.

Will the SACS wad actually clean the barrel with one pass thru the barrel?

Yes, the SACS wad cleans exceptionally well as compared to the traditional bore cleaning methods. However there are occasions when the barrel may have very very heavy carbon buildup, corrosion or contamination and it might need to be run through again. Typically I personnally use one lubricating wad before I shoot, save it, then use the cleaning wad once or twice then use the first lubricating wad again and I'm done. Also depending on how many rounds I shoot I might use a cleaning wad betwwen rounds to help improve my accuracy and keep the build up down to minimum

How many times can I use the SACS lubricating wad?

We recommend you only use the SACS lubricating wad once and throw it away, but you can save it and use it again. In addition, once you start using a quality lubricant on the lubricating wad, it will help keep the carbon buildup, corrosion and contamination to a minimum in the barrel.

How much lubricant do I use on the SACS lubricating wad?

You only need 2 to 3 drops of lubricant at the front of the lubricating wad. The lubricating wad is around 20% oversized and when it is forced down the firearm barrel it evenly coats the barrel and rifling.

How long will the CO2 cartridges last, i.e. how many times will I get to shoot the SACS cleaning and lubricating wads through the barrel before having to replace the cartridge?

We have found that with our 16 gram CO2 cartridges you will get around 25 uses with the smaller caliber .223 adapter, around 15 on the .45 calibers and around 5 to 6 uses on a 20" 12 gauge shotgun adapter with 1 to 2 on the longer length shotgun barrels. We do recommend the use of the new Micro-coil air adapter for the 12 GA to make it more economical. With the smaller 12 gram CO2 cartridges you will get less.

Do I have to use your SACS CO2 cartridges for the SACS (Small Arms Cleaning System)?

No, The SACS is designed to accept any non threaded CO2 cartridge that can be purchased at your local store.

Will the CO2 cartridge leak down after I use it and let it sit until the next time I use the SACS?

No, the SACS was designed to seal the CO2 cartridge to keep it from leaking down. Make sure you push the power units trigger safety in the up position to avoid accidental discharge of the CO2.

What is the new Micro-coil air adapter?

The new Micro-coil air adapter was designed to adapt the SACS power unit to refillable CO2 bottles to make it more economical for you the customer especially on the 12 GA shotguns.

Can I use the new Micro-coil air adapter on the smaller caliber firearms as well as the 12 GA shotguns.?

Yes, you can use the Micro-coil air adapter with all the SACS adapters.

Where do I get the refillable CO2 bottles?

You can get the refillable CO2 bottles at your local paintball supply stores, some Walmarts and Sports Authorities carry them.

Where do I get the refillable CO2 bottles refilled?

What size refillable CO2 bottle do I get?

Can I still use CO2 cartridges if I get the Micro-coil air adapter?
